FEELING SALTY IS PLASTIC FREE!

At Feeling Salty, we understand how detrimental excessive plastic production and pollution of the Textile Industry is on our planet, so we have made a conscious choice to dispatch all of our domestic & international orders using 100% compostable packaging made from plant based material, created by Better Packaging!

To ensure you are doing your part correctly, please make sure you remove any labels attached to your packaging, and place in either of the following: home food scrap bin, green waste bin (Australia) or a worm farm.

So who is Better Packaging?
Better Packaging was founded by Rebecca and Kate, who were devastated by the amount of plastic waste generated by the eCommerce industry. They are a team of passionate individuals determined to improve the state of the environment by inventing a sustainable pack made from raw materials that simply break down into your compost. Better packaging also has distribution centres in Australia, New Zealand and the United States. Perfectly in line with our brand mission!

For our Australian and International customers, your Feeling Salty parcel will be delivered in a ComPOST Pack made from corn starch, with a binding agent/resin for flexibility. Once you have opened your package, you can choose to re-use the satchel for your own personal use, or it can be placed in amongst your food scraps, garden waste and in both home and commercial composts.

The Better Packaging Co. believe that as a society we have to make a fundamental shift in the way we value resources and move from a ‘linear economy’ (make, use, dispose) to a ‘circular’ one. In a Circular Economy, resources are kept in use for as long as possible, the maximum value is extracted from them whilst in use, and at the end of the product’s service life, materials are recovered and regenerated from it.
We design products that come as close to this ideal as possible – waste products are used as their raw materials, minimal waste (and pollution) is generated in their production and at the end of their useful life they can be recycled an infinite number of times or regenerated.
Better, Right.”

HOW COMPOSTABLE
As more and more people become conscious of the waste generated by their own household and desire to reduce how much they send to landfill, home composting is increasing.
Home composting is ideal for fruit and veg scraps, leaves, sticks, twigs and newspapers, lawn clippings, egg shells, coffee grounds, tea leaves etc.

Packaging materials can be certified ‘Home Compostable’ if they conform to the Australian Standard AS 5810-2010.
Our comPOST Range has this certification.
Certified Compostable materials must meet the following four criteria:
  • Biodegradability – Determined by measuring the amount of CO2 produced over a certain time period by the biodegrading plastic.
  • Disintegration – Measured by sieving the material to determine the biodegraded size and that less than 10% remains on a 2mm screen within a certain number of days.
  • Eco-Toxicity – Measured by testing the concentrations of heavy metals to ensure that they are below the limits set by the standards and by testing plant growth by mixing the compost with soil in different concentrations and comparing plant growth in test and controlled compost samples.
  • Worm-Toxicity
